Shweta Bachchan's Mother-In-law, Raj Kapoor's Daughter Ritu Nanda Passes Away: B-town Attends Funeral

Shweta Bachchan Nanda's mother-in-law and Raj Kapoor's elder daughter Ritu Nanda breathed her last in New Delhi at 1: 15 a.m on January 14 and the condolences started flowing in the moment Big B shared the news on his blog.

The 71-year-old had been suffering from cancer for seven years.

Amitabh Bachchan flew out of Mumbai in the afternoon to attend the funeral with actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The megastar wrote on his blog: "My 'samdhan' Ritu Nanda, Shweta's Mother in Law passed away suddenly at 1.15 am... cannot communicate... travelling."

Others spotted hitting the airport were Gauri Khan and Karan Johar who are close-knit friends of Shweta. Ritu Nanda was married to industrialist Rajan Nanda and the sister of Randhir, Rishi, Rajiv and Rima Kapoor.

The couple has a daughter, Nitasha, and a son, Nikhil, who married Amitabh Bachchan's daughter Shweta in 1997. Ritu Nanda was the grandmother of Navya Naveli and Agastya.

Rishi Kapoor's wife and Ritu's sister-in-law, Neetu Kapoor remembered Ritu in an Instagram post, saying: "My dearest, may your soul rest in peace." Neetu and Rishi Kapoor's daughter Riddhima Kapoor Sahni mourned: "To the kindest most gentle person I've ever met - They don't make them like you anymore - RIP bua."

Present at the funeral were Rishi Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Riddhima Kapoor, Navya Nanda Naveli, Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Kapoor, Anil Kapoor.

For those who don't know, Ritu was the chairwoman and chief executive officer of Ritu Nanda Insurance Services (RNIS). She was also the recipient of the Brand and the Best Insurance Advisor of the Decade awards from the Life Insurance Corporation of India.
