The arrests took place on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, in Haridwar, while Patwal’s aide, Shubham, was also detained in Meerut's Shahpur.

As per reports, Anamika had separated from her husband and was living with her boyfriend in a hotel in Haridwar, while her daughter remained in her father's custody.
Police investigations revealed that the minor was gang-raped multiple times in Haridwar, Agra, and Vrindavan between January and March this year by her mother's boyfriend and his aide, both men in their thirties. It was further disclosed that the accused committed these acts with her mother’s consent and in her presence, also allegedly threatening to kill the girl’s father if she disclosed the abuse.
