The Department of Posts has introduced a new digital address system named DIGIPIN, designed to enable accurate identification of locations across the country.Here is how you can generate the DIGIPIN for your own home.

What Is DIGIPIN Code?

The new DIGIPIN system of India assigns a unique ten-character alphanumeric code to every 4 by 4 square meter area; it includes all types of properties, from the very busy urban centres to the scarcely populated rural and maritime zones. “DIGIPIN is an open-source national-level addressing grid developed by the Department of Posts in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and NRSC, ISRO and is a key component of the digital address ecosystem,” as per theGovernment of India, Department of Post (India Post) official portal.

5 Easy Steps To Check Your DIGIPIN Code On Phone

- Open any web browser on the mobile phone and type in dac.indiapost.gov.in/mydigipin/home to visit the location enabled official portal created by the Department of Posts.

- Your mobile phone’s web browser must have location access. To check whether it does or not, check your browser and make it allow location access.

- Click ‘Allow’ to grant permission for the site to access your location when asked.

- Now click ‘I Consent’ after going through the terms of DIGIPIN's privacy policy.

- You'll see your special DIGIPIN pop up in the bottom right side of the screen.

How Do You Find Your DIGIPIN?

You will need a device with a GNSS facility to find your exact location, which can then be converted into a DIGIPIN code. The Department of Posts is in the process of developing a web application which allows the public to fetch the corresponding DIGIPIN of their location. The department has also planned to share the programming code for DIGIPIN logic in the public domain for fetching and decoding the DIGIPIN.

Do You Have To Log In Or Sign Up To Find DIGIPIN?

According to the Government of India, Department of Post (India Post) official portal, “No, You don’t have to login or signup for fetching the DIGIPIN of your location. You might have to provide location access in the device to fetch the DIGIPIN value of your location.”
