A shocking incident has emerged from Mumbai involving a respected English teacher at one of the city’s top schools. The 40-year-old female teacher has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old student from Class 11 over one year.

When Did The Abuse Start?

Police said the woman, an English teacher, had taught the boy when he was in Class XI. During meetings in December 2023 to organise a dance group for the school’s annual function, she admitted developing feelings for him. In January 2024, she allegedly made inappropriate sexual gestures towards the student.

When the student initially resisted, she is said to have involved a female acquaintance who reportedly told him that relations between older women and teenage boys have ‘become quite common’ and were ‘meant for each other’, pressuring him into responding.

Allegations of Sexual Assault

Once contact was established outside the school, the teacher reportedly picked up the student in her car and drove him to secluded areas. One of the police officers told HT, “She picked him up in her sedan, took him to an isolated spot, and forcefully undressed him and assaulted him.” The officer further shared, “Over the next few days, when the student developed acute anxiety, she even gave him some anti-anxiety pills.”

As the months passed, the assaults escalated. The police say she took the student to five-star hotels, where she allegedly served him alcohol and continued the sexual abuse. The incidents reportedly occurred multiple times over the year.

Family Noticed Changes And Took Action

The boy’s family became concerned after noticing changes in his behaviour. He appeared anxious and emotionally disturbed. They asked him what was wrong, and that’s when he opened up and shared what had happened.

After completing his Class 12 exams, the family hoped the issue had passed. However, the teacher allegedly attempted to reach out to the boy again through their domestic help, prompting the family to take action. A complaint was filed, and the case was registered.
