The Ultimate Destination: Eternal Bliss and Everlasting Happiness
Misconceptions and Realities of Awakening
Spiritual Awakening is often misunderstood, wrapped in myths and idealised notions. One common misconception is that the Spiritual Awakening or Enlightenment is a sudden, blissful event that instantly erases all pain and confusion. While there is always an ‘Aha!’ moment in the Awakening process but in reality, it is usually a gradual, sometimes messy process that will consist of several small Realisations of the Truths and ultimately, experiencing the one moment, where all the earlier truths will start making sense. We can equate this experience with playing a jigsaw puzzle. The Awakening is usually the last piece that fits into place and completes the picture for us. Thus, Awakening or Enlightenment, often begins with discomfort, loss, inner turmoil or a deep sense of emptiness, which serves as a catalyst for transformation, for us to take a step towards the journey of Self-Realisation.
Another misconception is that Spiritual Awakening means becoming ‘perfect’ or free from all negative emotions. In truth, the journey of Enlightenment involves embracing all aspects ofour self, including fear, anger, anxiety, worry and sadness, with compassion and Awareness. It's not about escaping the human experience but deepening it. Thus, with the Enlightenment and Realiation of the Truth that we are not the body-mind-ego complex that we identify ourselves with, we will not suffer in the pain of the body, misery of the mind and the agony of the ego. We may experience pain but there will not be any suffering in that pain.
Pleasure, Peace, and Purpose
Many also believe that leading a spiritual life means renouncing material life. This is not true, entirely. While some may feel drawn to simplicity, minimalism and putting their need in the forefront and giving up the greed of material possessions, true Awakening doesn’t require isolation, austerity or renunciation. Spiritual Enlightenment, in fact, opens us to enjoy all the Ps ofhappiness
Pleasure, Peace and Purpose deeply without being prisoners to only the basal needs or pleasures. The journey of Enlightenment and Awareness makes us realise that pleasure is the lowest form of happinessand one shouldn’t be seeking just that in life. One should strive towards attaining peace, the foundation of truehappinessand ultimately, purpose – to realize,‘Who am I and why am I born with this life that I have?’
Spiritual Awakening is thus, a deeply personal journey, a journey inwards, often not easy and full of challenges. Yet, it also brings profound clarity, inner peace and a sense of connection to something greater. By letting go of expectations and facing the truth with openness, we will allow the journey to unfold authentically, tapping into our inner Consciousness, connect with the higher self, the Divine, and know the true purpose of our life. Therefore, the journey of Spiritual Enlightenment may be filled with a lot of confusions, myths and misconceptions but the reality is that this journey and the destination will fill our lives with Eternal Bliss, Truth Consciousness, EverlastingHappinessand Divine Love.
