Stubborn yellow stains on plastic utensils, especially lunch boxes can be frustrating, whether they're from food, sunlight, or chemical reactions. Fortunately, removing these stains is easy with common household products. Try soaking the plastic in hydrogen peroxide or vinegar, or scrubbing it with baking soda and lemon juice. Here we’ll share more simple and effective methods to help you get rid of yellow stains from your plastic items.
Tips To Remove Yellow Stains From Plastic Utensils
Use Distilled White Vinegar
Soak the container in a solution of equal parts warm water and distilled white vinegar or cleaning vinegar. Let it sit for at least 8 hours or ideally 24 hours. Then, pour out the vinegar solution, wash the container with hot soapy water, and rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Try Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide, a gentle oxygen bleach, effectively removes stains from white fabrics and plastic containers. To achieve even colour removal and eliminate stubborn stains, fill the container completely with hydrogen peroxide. Allow it to soak for up to 24 hours, especially for tough stains. After soaking, dispose of the hydrogen peroxide, then wash the container in hot, soapy water.
Scrub With a Baking Soda Paste
Prepare a gentle, non-abrasive paste by mixing 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 teaspoon of water. Adjust the consistency by adding a few drops of water if needed. Apply the paste to the stained areas using a soft sponge. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then dampen the sponge and gently scrub the plastic. Wash in hot, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. If the stain persists, repeat the process.

Soak in Rubbing Alcohol
Fill the plastic container with enough rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol to cover the entire yellowed area. Allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes. Then, pour out the alcohol and wash the container in hot, soapy water. However, if you're short on alcohol, you can line the container with paper towels soaked in rubbing alcohol to achieve the same effect.
