A routine act of helpfulness turned into a terrifying ordeal for a Delhi woman who found herself relentlessly pursued by a stranger at a metro station. The incident, shared anonymously on Reddit, has sparked fresh conversations about women's safety on public transport in the national capital.
The woman's detailed account of her experience has gone viral on social media, drawing attention to the everyday challenges female commuters face while travelling alone in Delhi.
Woman's Act of Kindness Turns Into Nightmare Experience
According to the Reddit post, the incident took place at a Delhi Metro station when the woman was approached by a man in his 30s. He appeared confused and asked for directions. She pointed him toward the correct platform. He thanked her and asked if she was heading in the same direction.
"He thanked me and asked if I was also going there. I said yes and walked off. But then I realised he was following me," the woman wrote in her Reddit post, according to the original account shared on the platform.
The man's behaviour became increasingly intrusive as he continued to trail her movements throughout the station.
The woman described her growing sense of unease in her detailed account: "This guy follows me, I felt he was behind me, so there was already a guy sitting there. I sat beside him so there was no possible place to sit on the platform, and he came up to me and said, 'Can I sit here?' And I look around, where? He repeats 'Can I sit here?' I was like 'Does he want to sit on my lap now?' I just stood up and moved away, then he again followed and asked, 'Do you have water with you?' I declined. Still, this guy just won't leave me alone."

Harassment Despite Crowded Platform
Despite being surrounded by other commuters, the woman found herself feeling isolated and vulnerable as the stranger's persistence continued. Her attempts to create physical distance proved unsuccessful as the man kept approaching her.
"I started to feel restless, even when there were so many people around, I felt unsafe. I just dialled a number and started acting like I was talking to someone, then he left, and for fear that he might come back, I walked over to the women's coach," she explained in her Reddit post.
Since her post went viral, it has sparked discussion online about how often women deal with uncomfortable and unsafe situations while commuting. Many users expressed support and shared similar stories from their own experiences.
This incident serves as another reminder of the mental and emotional toll such encounters take even when they end without physical harm. The Delhi Metro, often hailed for its efficiency, has once again come under scrutiny for how safe women feel while using it.
Whether she's at home or at work, a woman in India does not feel safe. When will this end? A woman's safety is no joke, it is her right.
