The annual Kanwar Yatra started on July 22, 2024, and will culminate on August 2, 2024. The 12-day yatra will interfere with the usual traffic movement and thus keeping this in mind Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory. The Kanwar Yatra
July 22, 2024, marked the beginning of the Sawan month. This year this holy occasion will last till August 19, 2024. Kanwar Yatra is one of the major highlights of this month which commenced on July 22, 2024, and will culminate on August 2, 2024. A large number of Kanwariyas will reach Delhi. According to Delhi Police, this year Delhi is expected to receive 15-20 lakh devotees.
Diversions In Delhi Route
To facilitate smooth traffic and the Kanwar yatra, Delhi police have online traffic diversions on certain routes. Heavy transport vehicles will be redirected by UP police from Mohan Nagar towards NH-24 with restrictions on Wazirabad Road via Bhopura and GT Road via Apsara Border. Also, heavy transport vehicles will be rerouted away from GT Road towards Shahdara and Wazirabad Road.
Heavy Traffic On Routes
The Kanwariyas will put their camps on the road side leading to heavy traffic congestion. The advisory lists several locations prone to heavy congestion, including Najafgarh Firni, Rohtak Road, Pankha Road, Dev Prakash Shastri Marg, Nangloi-Najafgarh Road, Outer Ring Road, Rani Jhansi Road from Baraf Khana Chowk to Fire Station, Boulevard Road at Azad Market Chowk, Gokul Puri Flyover, 66 Foota Road, Maujpur Chowk, Badarpur T Point, and Mathura Road.
Routes To Avoid
According to Delhi Police advisory, the devotees will pass through routes including Apsara Border, Shahdara Flyover, Seelampur 'T' Point, ISBT Flyover Boulevard Road, Rani Jhansi Road, Faiz Road, Upper Ridge Road, Dhaula Kuan, NH-8 and exit from Rajokri Border for Haryana. Thus, you are advised to avoid these routes.

Traffic Rules
According to Delhi Police, motorists are advised to plan their journeys carefully to avoid delays. Also, the travellers and devotees (mistakes to avoid in sawan) are asked to abide by the traffic rules and regulations and follow the directives of on-duty police officers. In case of traffic rule violations during Kanwar Yatra, the person will be fined. Everyone will be monitored by CCTV cameras and will be photographed and videographed.
