While Bengaluru-born Ricky Kej won a Grammy for his album "Divide Tides" in the latest Annual Grammy Awards, American-born Sikh Gurujas Kaur Khalsa bagged it for her new-age Album Mystic Mirror. Take a look at who she is and all about the album that won the historical Grammy.

The 65th Annual Grammy Awards turned out to be a historic one for South Asian-origin artists. While fellow South Asians like Anoushka Shankar, Arooj Aftab, and the Berklee Indian Ensemble received well-deserved accolades and plaudits, Bengaluru-born Ricky Kej won a Grammy for his album "Divide Tides".The ceremony also witnessed, Gurujas Kaur Khalsa coming up to the stage to get her Grammy.

Kaur won a Grammy award for Best New Age Album for Mystic Mirror which includes an integral part of Shabad from Guru Granth Sahib chanted by Khalsa. “We just won a GRAMMY for our album Mystic Mirror in the New Age, Ambient or Chant Category,” tweeted Kaur’s group White Sun followed by the win.

Who Is Gurujas Kaur Khalsa?

Based in Los Angeles, Kaur is a teacher, a practising Yogini, and a lead singer of the music group White Sun. The Kundalini Yoga teachings serve as the inspiration for her music. Kaur has been working as a teaching professional for a number of years now and has participated in several, rigorous teacher preparation programmes. She lives in the US and frequently goes to different parts of the world to provide training. She receives instruction from her teacher Harijiwan, a member of the group and fellow Grammy winner for the new age album.

What Is White Sun?

Founded in 2015 in Los Angeles, White Sun is a music group comprising Gurujas, Harijiwan, and Adam Berry. For their second album, White Sun II, White Sun earned a Grammy Award in 2017.

White Sun's music was originally founded in new-age, but it has now diversified to incorporate pop, reggae, world, folk, and electronica. Their music is renowned for its intricate musicianship, crystal-clear voices, and ground-breaking Gong utilisation.
