In today's age, immense work pressure- fast turnarounds, long hours, and constant creative demands- make it all the more important to build a workplace where people feel heard, seen, and supported. A mindful workplace does not wait for a crisis to act, notes our expert. He suggests five ways in which offices can champion mental health for employees.

Mental health has finally found a space in workplace conversations, but far too often, it's confined to awareness campaigns in May (Mental Health Awareness Month). Mental health shouldn't be a seasonal topic. It’s a culture. It’s daily, intentional, and lived, says Abhishek Mehta, HR Director, Brand Street Integrated. He says how companies can build mindful workplaces.

5 Ways Companies Can Create Mindful Workplaces

As per Mr Abhishek Mehta, the immense work pressure- fast turnarounds, long hours, and constant creative demands make it all the more important to build a workplace where people feel heard, seen, and supported. A mindful workplace does not wait for a crisis to act.

It should be proactive, empathetic, and ever-evolving. Companies should consciously create a space for their people to pause, breathe, and reset, feels Mr Mehta. Regular breaks, both big and small, should be encouraged. Whether it’s a long weekend, a quiet day to regroup, or just stepping away from the desk for a while, firms must normalise rest without guilt, he adds. Given below are five ways in which offices can champion mental health for employees:

1) Multiple Off-site Outbounds

Administrations can plan multiple offsite outbounds across the year, not as checkbox events, but as genuine opportunities for teams to connect outside the demands of deadlines. From hillside retreats to local cultural immersions, these experiences spark joy, bring laughter, and give teams a chance to rediscover each other and themselves beyond job roles.

2) Activities

Engagement shouldn't be limited to annual parties or town halls. Calendars must be active year-round with activities that range from light-hearted to deeply reflective. From “Coffee with HR” sessions onward, the focus must be on sustaining a genuine sense of belonging.

3) Open-Door Policy

Among the pillars that truly support mental well-being is trust—and that’s where an open-door policy plays a key role. Companies can create a flat and approachable environment where anyone, from any department or level, can walk in, speak freely, and be assured of confidentiality and care. It’s not lip service. Leadership must listen and, more importantly, act.

4) Partnerships

May, being the month of Mental Health Awareness, should be the time when firms must amplify conversations around workplace well-being, but the intention is to keep them going long after May. They can explore partnerships with wellness coaches, plan interactive sessions, and encourage their people to define what self-care looks like for them.

5) Creating Psychological Safety

Firms must recognise that mental health is not a one-size-fits-all. It could mean needing fewer meetings in a day, a considerate manager, a flexible schedule, or just a kind word in an uncertain moment. For companies, creating a mindful workplace means ensuring the psychological safety for people to ask for what they need, judgment-free.

"Not because it’s a trend, but because people are the greatest asset to any company. When they are doing well, companies do well. And if they are thriving, then so is everything they touch," wraps up Mr Abhishek Mehta.
