Is Long Distance Relationship Healthy?

Benefits Of Long Distance Relationship

Distance poses a challenge in maintaining relationship but it allows you to see the true love of your partner. With distance the heart grows fonder, ultimately increasing the love intensity. Additionally, it also tests the faithfulness towards each other and you start valuing your partner's presence. Also, your communication skills improve when you try to stay connected to technology.

How To Maintain Long Distance Relationships?

Here are some of the tips for maintaining long-distance relationships:

Engage In Texting

Tammy highlighted that if you are in a long distance relationship, or living apart, texting can be one way to stay connected. But if one partner is less likely to text in detail or less often, it can feel like a one sided relationship.

Leverage The Technology

Tammy suggests finding other ways to stay present in the relationship. You can try Facetime or video call on a regular basis to stay connected with your partner. Make sure it's scheduled on both of your calendars so you each know when to expect the call.

Conversation Challenge

According to Tammy, one way to challenge the conversation is to ask, “how are you, how am I and how are we?” These three questions should be answered by each of you, limiting the check in to fifteen minutes, unless something more complex comes up in the relationship that needs to be discussed.

Plan Meet Ups

Make plans to meet each other once every 3 months or 6 months as per your convenience and time. The aspect of physical proximity in a romantic relationship cannot be ignored. Each of you can visit your partner’s place once or you can decide on a different destination to meet.
