Lohri is just around the corner and this year again due to the pandemic, the celebrations will be minimal, majorly at home. The third wave of the pandemic hit us in the beginning of this year and things have been getting worse across the country. Looking at the rising number of the COVID-19 cases, it is best to enjoy festivities at home. 

To make the celebrations special at home, you can prepare some delicious snacks. So, here we thought of bringing you 3 easy snack recipes for Lohri. These are really easy recipes and require minimal ingredients. Prepare them at home and serve during the time of festivities to add some cheer. 

Chana Cutlets

If you are bored preparing aloo or potato cutlets on every occasion, try making these chana cutlets this time at home. We are sure everyone would love munching on these.

Ingredients Required - 

  • 100 Gram White Chana Or Chickpeas
  • 1 Mashed Potato
  • 1 Chopped Carrot
  • 1/2 Cup Chopped Beans
  • 1 Tsp Grated Ginger
  • 1-2 Green Chillies
  • Salt As Per Taste
  • Oil As Required 
  • Black Pepper Powder As Per Taste
  • 1 Tsp Garam Masala
  • 1 Egg White
  • 1 Cup Bread Crumbs
  • Handful Of Coriander Leaves

Directions - 

  • Soak chana or chickpeas overnight and then pressure cook them till soft. 
  • After cooking chana, grind them to make a coarse paste with water. Keep aside. 
  • In a pan, add some oil, ginger and green chillies. 
  • Add in chopped carrot, beans. CCook well. 
  • Next add mashed potato and combine all the ingredients. 
  • Spinkle salt and other spices. 
  • When the mixture is ready, add chana paste. 
  • Top with coriander leaves and mix. 
  • Take off flame and let the mixture cool. 
  • Make small patties from the mixture and dip them in a white egg and coat in bread crumbs. 
  • On a non-stick pan, spread some oil and roast the patties on both sides till crisp. Enjoy with tomato ketchup.

Sweet Potato Bonda

If you wish to enjoy the evening with a guilt free snack, prepare these sweet potato bondas this Lohri.

Ingredients Required - 

  • 3 Boiled Sweet Potatoes
  • 1 Chopped Onion
  • 1/2 Cup Chopped Peas
  • 1-2 Chopped Chillies
  • Salt To Taste
  • 1/2 Tsp Black Pepper Powder
  • 1/4 Tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/4 Tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 4 Tbsp Besan Or Gram Flour
  • 2 Tbsp Rice Flour 
  • 1 Tbsp Corn Flour
  • Pinch Of Asafoetida Powder
  • 1/4 Tsp Ajwain Or Carom Seeds
  • Ghee Or Oil As Required

Directions - 

  1. In a bowl, add boiled sweet potatoes. 
  2. Mash them using a fork. 
  3. In a pan, add some oil, onions, green chillies and green peas. Mix well. 
  4. Add salt and turmeric powder as per taste. 
  5. Add in mashed sweet potatoes and combine all the ingredients. 
  6. Add other spices and mix well. 
  7. Take off flame and let the batter cool. 
  8. Prepare a batter using gram flour, rice flour, corn flour and some salt. Mix well. 
  9. Dip sweet potato balls into the batter. 
  10. In a kadhai, add oil and bring to heat. 
  11. Deep fry sweet potato bondas till golden and crisp. 
  12. Take off flame and serve with mint chutney.

Dry Fruit Kachori

There is nothing really like enjoying some hot, fresh kachoris while you sit by the bonfire on the occasion of Lohri. Right?

Ingredients Required - 

  • 2 Cup All Purpose Flour Or Maida
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 4 Tsp Oil
  • 1 Cup Water

For Stuffing - 

  • 1/4 Cup Tamarind Pulp
  • Oil As Required
  • 1/2 Cup Besan Or Gram Flour
  • 1/2 Tsp Asafoetida
  • 1 Tbsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 Tbsp Garam Masala Powder
  • 1/2 Cup Jaggery Powder
  • Salt To Taste
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Seeds
  • 1 Tbsp Fennel Seeds 
  • 1 Cup Chopped Cashew Nuts
  • 1/2 Tsp Cinnamon Powder
  • 1 Cup Chopped Raisins 
  • Oil To Fry

Directions - 

  • In a bowl, add all purpose flour or maida. Add oil and salt and mix well. Knead a soft dough. Let it rest for 30 minutes. 
  • In a pan, dry roast gram flour and keep aside. 
  • In a bowl, add water, jaggery and tamarind pulp. 
  • In a pan, add some oil, asafoetida, tamarind mixture and cook. 
  • Add salt, red chilli powder, salt, sesame seeds, fennel seeds, cashew nutes, cinnamon powder. 
  • Next add gram flour and mix. 
  • Add raisins and combine all the ingredients. Take off flame. 
  • Make small balls from the all purpose flour dough. 
  • Using a rolling pin, flatten the ball. 
  • Fill in the stuffing and seal the edges with water or oil. 
  • In a kadhai, add oil and deep fry till they turn golden brown. 
  • Enjoy hot kachoris with chutney.
