Winter Face Masks For Dry Skin: Winter air is colder and holds less humidity, which means our skin loses moisture faster. Indoor heating also dries out the air and our skin struggles to keep up. We spoke to Dr Prachi B Bodkhe, Dermatologist at Envi Aesthetics, MBBS, MD Dermatology, Fellowship in Lasers, Aesthetic Medicine & Dermatosurgery, to understand how to keep skin nourished and hydrated when the cold weather hits. In this guide, you’ll find easy DIY face masks and tips to help your skin stay soft, smooth, and healthy throughout winter season:
To protect and restore dry skin in winter, here are the essential things that you must know:
Humectants, such as hyaluronic acid or glycerin, draw moisture into the skin.
Emollients, like shea butter, squalane, or plant oils, which help seal in moisture and strengthen the skin barrier.
Soothing ingredients like oats, aloe vera, or honey, which calm irritation and replenish hydration.

Keep it on for 5-7 mins and wash it off with water.
This combination helps lock in moisture and soothe dryness, leaving the skin soft and calm.
It’s especially helpful after cleansing, followed by a mild moisturiser.
Mix a teaspoon of gram flour with 2 teaspoons of milk cream to form a paste.
Apply a thin layer and keep it for 3-5 mins. Do not let it dry on your skin.

Expert Advice - “Please make sure your skin is not extremely dry, red or itchy before using any DIY mask and always do a patch test before applying it do your face. Avoid them completely if you’re using active ingredients like AHA/BHA cleansers or serums as they can increase irritation. Keep your skin care simple and gentle in winters with more focus on deeper hydration.”
