Parallelly, it takes the audience into a whirlwind of horror, blurring the line between reality and illusion. Are these events connected to something more malicious than what we see? The final half of this slow burn reveals everything and makes us numb thereafter.

There are only a handful of films that haunt you with just the atmosphere it weaves with just the silent stare of its characters. Yorgos Lanthimos directs and brings a brilliant cast together (Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman and Barry Keoghan) to give us one of the most unsettling films ever. Steven, a surgeon befriends a teenager Martin, whose father died at the hospital recently. Right from the start we can sense something vague and vicious about Martin. Yet, he starts spending time with steven’s family. What initially seems like a beautiful bond turns into a string of terrifying acts of vengeance. The family realises that they have invited something bizarre into their lives. The real horror lies in the symbolism of the supernatural, science and sacrifice and makes us wonder about the dichotomy between good and evil.

Imagine being invited to your girlfriend's home for a dinner party. Guess what? Instead of warmth and joy, you end up facing something sinister! For Chris, his weekend getaway becomes a nightmare, as he starts unmasking the uneasy nicety of his girlfriend’s parents. How he meanders through the evil maze forms the crux of the story. Directed by Jordan Peele, this arthouse horror gem touches upon unsettling themes like racial discrimination and prejudice. This in turn becomes a prickly narrative, molding horror into a social satire that leaves us shocked to our core.
