Hailing from Gurugram, Gunjan is a fitness enthusiast and influencer. When her weight touched 80kg, she began to question her body. People used to call her fat, buffalo and whatnot in school. She started losing her confidence.
However, she did not know all this weight gain was because of Polycystic Ovary Disorder (PCOD). Let's look at her weight-loss journey of transformation from 80kg to 55kg.
Gunjan belongs to a Punjabi family where everything revolves around food. “While eating breakfast, we start planning for lunch,” she said while sharing her fat-to-fit journey with Only My Health. There was not much awareness about fitness in her family and surroundings.
At the age when girls love to feel admired and appreciated, people used to body shame Gunjan by calling her fat. The fitness enthusiast says that children did not understand the concept of body shaming and how it affected their mental health.
Gunjan was a regular child, but as she grew up, she started noticing changes in her body and skin. She was gaining weight. By the time she finished college and landed her first job, she had accepted that her body was like that. She used to curse her genes and destiny for the way she looked.
She is a software engineer whose everyday tasks involve sitting in front of a computer. During the initial years, she worked in shifts and had no time to devote to her body. She started experiencing back pain, and her weight touched the 80kg scale.
She did not have the energy to walk and always felt tired. This was the saturation point in Gunjan’s life. She decided to take things into her hands. Her internet research revealed that health and fitness have never been just about exercising, losing weight and dieting. It has always been about small daily habits.
She made a diet plan for herself and stuck to it for three months. She decided to follow through with exercises every single day of the week, drink the optimum amount of water and sleep at least seven hours a day.
Following a timetable is easier said than done. Gunjan started to experience food cravings. In the office, her colleague cut a chocolate cake, and it was her favourite thing. But she decided not to give up and made a note in her diary to treat herself to a chocolate cake on the day she would achieve her fitness goals.
As a determined woman, she followed her weight loss plans religiously for three months. Her clothes became loose, and she went shopping. The shopkeeper directed her to a section where small-sized clothes were on display. In the trial room, Gunjan broke down because a top fitting her in small size was a winning moment for her.
