summer

Summers are in full swing. It’s time to bring in some major dietary changes. While in winters, our body demanded ingredients that could help the glands and the organs to stay warm, we can’t afford to keep ingesting the same spicy and hot food items in summers. As our bodies take their own time to acclimatize to the sudden surge in temperatures we need to replace kadhas with cooling sharbets. Summers are the time when you must pamper your digestive systems, instead of torturing it with hot and greasy food. While on one hand, you must drink a copious amount of water, on the other hand, keeping distance from fatty and fried foods is imperative. Here are some foods that you must avoid in the sweltering heat to keep your body cool.

Spices

Spices

Spices are the food items, used to add flavour, colour, and aroma to the dishes. While many spices are beneficial for health and are considered a superfood, consumption of some of these can end up upsetting your stomach. The digestive system must not be loaded with anything hot and spicy in summers, otherwise, you can end up having burning sensations and restlessness. In worst-case scenarios, spices can cause dehydration.

Non-Vegetarian Food

Non Vegetarian Food

There’s hardly any non-vegetarian food that does not require a copious amount of oil or spices to prepare. Any kind of non-veg item is hard to digest. And while you make it heavier with oils and spices, the pressure on the digestive system increases. Therefore, summer is not the time to eat tandooris, fish and chicken, or even seafood. This all makes a person sweat more and causes digestive problems, such as diarrhea.

Spicy Gravy

Spicy Gravy

While we Indians love our curries, summer is not the best time to tuck it in. Sauce or gravy dishes contain more calories which can make a person feel sluggish and lazy. The tadka and the oil in it are enough to make you feel hot and sweaty all day long too. The increase in temperature leads to indigestion stomach issues. Therefore, try to avoid gravies as much as possible.

Fried junk Food

Fried junk

A healthier body and jink food can never go hand in hand. Especially in summers. Everyone should avoid junk at all times, but in summers you need to be extra conscious for your body and for the skin. Fried food tends to make the skin oilier during an already hot day. The existing oil gives rise to skin problems such as pimples.

Hot Beverages

Many people can’t start their day without ingesting a hot cup of tea or coffee. It makes them feel fresh and energetic all day long. Despite this being the daily routine of many, one must also keep in mind that drinking a hot beverage during summer may increase body heat and cause dehydration. However, replacing hot tea or coffee with green teas or iced coffees can help.
