Athose who follow super fit Shilpa Shetty Kundra's workout routine know that her mantra is simple - 'yoga se he hoga'. The diva's love for yoga isn't new. For years now, she has been practising yoga and nothing really could take away that commitment. 

Every now and then the Bollywood diva keeps sharing her guide to doing different yoga asanas along with their benefits. Recently, she took to her Instagram handle and shared a video of her doing Utthan Pristhasana, or the lizard pose.

Shilpa Shetty Kundra captioned her post, "Giving the body a good stretch early in the day works wonders. It can relieve stress/tension pain by aiding your muscles and mind with blood circulation preparing your body for the day ahead. So, I decided to start my day under head under the sky, feet on the ground, with the chirping birds and O2 with the Utthan Pristhasana, or the Lizard pose."

How To Do Utthan Pristhasana Or Lizard Pose?

Shilpa Shetty Kundra first began with standing on her yoga mat and doing the raised arm pose. 
Next, she got into the downward facing dog yoga asana, stretches back one leg and then shifts to a twisted deep lunge pose. 
Shilpa Shetty kept her head in a relaxed, neutral position.

After stretching the post for a few minutes, she released the pose and stepped back to the downward dog pose by stretching out her hands. 
Lastly, she got back to the standing pose with folded hands.

All these steps should be repeated with the next leg to ensure uniformity.

On her post, Shilpa Shetty shared how the  Utthan Pristhasana, or the lizard pose can benefit one. She shared the following benefits - 

Doing this yoga not only improves the body’s flexibility, but also helps open up hamstrings, hip flexors, and groin.  

Additionally, it strengthens the inner thighs and quadriceps, making it a great asana for hip opening, opening the upper body (& mind), and calming the nerves.

Shilpa Shetty Kundra further on her post shared that those suffering from any hip or knee injury or have a weak or dislocated shoulder, it is advisable to either avoid this pose or practice it under supervision.

Tips To Keep In Mind While Utthan Pristhasana Or Lizard Pose

While doing the lizard pose, make sure you go slow. If you are still new to Yoga, you might feel breathless at some point while doing this yoga asana so pause right away. Inhale and then continue.

As we just saw in Shilpa Shetty's video, this asana involves a lot of stretching and to avoid any strain, it is important to do it safely and slowly. 

If you have a Yoga instructor, ask them for modification if you are unable to do the exact asana because of flexbility or other issues. 

If you feel weakness or strain in any part of the body after doing this pose for once, stop immediately and if you don't get relief, consult your doctor.
