Renowned Kannada actor and voice behind Namma Metro’s announcement, Aparna Vastarey passed away at 57 after a long battle with lung cancer. The tragic news came in on Thursday leaving her fans heartbroken. Reportedly, she was ill for the last two years.

Aparna’s husband Nagaraj Vatarey was present with her when she took her last breath. The presenter was diagnosed with 4th stage lung cancer in July two years ago and has been critically ill since then before passing away in Banashankari.

Aparna Vastarey’s Life And Career

Over the years, Aparna gained immense fame with her career as an actor, presenter and TV show host. Recently, she became popular for lending her voice to Kannada announcements in Namma Metro. A majority of metro travellers are well aware of the refrain: Dayavittu Gamanisi, Mundina Nildana.

Hailing from Panachanahalli in Chikkamagaluru’s Kadur, Aparna developed an interest in music, literature and culture during her early ages. Soon, she made a debut in Puttanna Kanagal’s 1985 Kannada film Masanada Hoova, starring alongside ‘Rebel Star’ Ambareesh. In the 1990s, Aparna kickstarted her career as a radio jockey with the All India Radio and as a presenter on DD Chandana. She later ventured into hit television serials like Moodala Mane and Preethi Illada Mele.

Aparna also appeared as one of the contestants in Bigg Boss Kannada’s first season in 2013. In 2015, Aparna became a part of the Maja Talkies comedy show, playing the character ‘Varalakshmi’.

Celebrities Showed Their Condolences Upon Aparna’s Demise

Kannada film and theatre actress Padmaja Rao, who previously worked with Aparna said she was shocked at her friend’s demise. "We hadn't met for a year now. I'm at a loss. I'm not able to grieve. I can't even weep," Padmaja said in an interview. Rao described her deceased friend as a confident and articulate anchor with a commendable command over the Kannada language. According to her, Aparna has been sick for a while, lost a lot of weight and looked frail.

Chief Minister Siddharamiah also expressed his condolences via his X handle. "Saddened to hear the news of the death of actress and famous presenter Aparna. It is sad that a multifaceted talent who was a household name in the country by presenting in the Kannada language very elegantly in the programs of major Kannada channels including government functions, has left us very soon. May the departed soul of Aparna rest in peace," he wrote on the social media platform X.
