The More The SPF The Better?

Dr Neha explained that SPF is the sun protection factor and in Indian weather and for Indian skin tones, you must apply at least SPF 30 minimum for even its basic effect. However, if you have to be outdoors for the day, maybe trekking, shopping, or any other outdoor activity, this number becomes 50 at least.

Our expert said that no sunscreen can protect you from the sun's harmful rays forever. While high SPF sunscreens do offer greater protection, it's still essential to reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or sweating, depending on your exposure.

Dr Neha said that globally, sunscreens are usually mineral-based as chemical ones can do more harm than protect. There are new formulations in the market that allow you to apply mineral sunscreens without getting a white cast on your face or body.

Your hands often tell your age, and can make you look older with fine lines, hyperpigmentation, etc. Your hands are equally exposed to the sunrays which is why our expert advises applying sunscreen on your body too.

Dr Neha mentioned that even on rainy days, the clouds reflect almost 70% of the UV rays which is why you should wear sunscreen even on cloudy days or if you live in a place with high humidity. She added that when you are indoors, the glass doors allow the rays to penetrate into our atmosphere and the devices we use including our phones and laptops emit blue light.
