One of the most important things you need to do ahead of your wedding day is to prep your skin. A heap of makeup will be put on your skin, so it needs to be the perfect canvas. The crucial thing you have to keep in mind is to opt for treatments that are suitable for your skin type.
Here’s how you should go about preparing dry skin in winters for the big day. Most women experience flakiness, dullness, and dryness that can prevent them from achieving a flawless look. Here are tips shared by our experts – Shahnaz Husain, Hair & Beauty Expert, and Dr Geetika Mittal Gupta, Aesthetic Physician and Medical Director at Isaac Luxe.
Select Skincare Products According To Skin Type
This is something that you should be concerned about not only for the wedding day but also throughout your life. Dry skin lacks moisture and becomes drier in winter. Therefore, you need a product that has oil as well as moisture.
Cleanse Face Twice A Day
On your wedding day, you should wash your face at least twice. Once after you wake up, and second, before putting on the makeup. Cleansing gel or cream would be a good option for women with dry skin.
If the product contains aloe vera gel, there is nothing better. It will help to soothe any redness or irritation. When applying the cleanser, massage it gently with your fingers and wipe it off with moist cotton or a wipe.
You can even create a cleanser at home. In a bowl, add two tablespoons of cold milk and two drops of vegetable oil. Mix it nicely, dip a cotton pad in it and apply it to your face. Before doing this experiment on your wedding day, do a patch test on your hands at least a couple of months before.
Our experts suggest using a moisturising face serum after cleansing. A product containing Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and ferulic acid would be most helpful.
Add Glow With A Toner
You should use a toner to lock the glow on your big day. Rosewater can be your go-to choice. First, clean your face, then using cotton pads, you can dab the toner.
It will stimulate blood circulation, tighten the pores and even out the skin tone. Dr Gupta said that the toner must be free from alcohol.
Moisturise Your Skin
Dryness is the enemy of your skin, and you can do away with it only by using a moisturiser. It should be a combination of water and oil-based ingredients. You can apply the cream after cleansing and toning.
A tip that will work great for you is sleeping with a liquid moisturiser the night before the big day. You must not miss out on applying the moisturiser before makeup. It will help to create a smooth base.
You can directly apply aloe vera as well. Keep it for 20 minutes and wash your face after with normal water.
Whether you have a wedding day or night, sunscreen is important. It will keep the skin moisturised and prevent environmental harm. Even before makeup, you should apply sunscreen.
Do Not Forget Under Eyes & Lips
It is easy to forget about the eyes and lips. They have a delicate dermal layer which needs your utmost attention. Apply an under-eye cream and remove it after 15 minutes with a wet cotton pad. For lips, you must apply moisturiser or almond oil.
Apply Sesame Oil Before Bath
Sesame oil before a bath can be helpful in maintaining hydration on the skin of your body, legs and arms. “Immediately after your bath, apply a body lotion while the skin is still damp. This helps to seal in moisture,” Husain added.
Husain and Dr Gupta suggested brides must continue with a healthy diet and eat fruits to maintain hydration in the body. A part of the diet should also include a detox drink like lemon and honey water, ginger tea, and cucumber mint drink among others.
You cannot prepare your skin for the big day by doing everything together. You have to start doing it months ahead of the wedding and continue with the routine to maintain a healthy glow on your face.
