Bengaluru-based Vastu expert Pooja Khanna Tyagi, who runs KundliVaastu and has over a decade of experience guiding families on home harmony, advises people to think twice about the plants they keep indoors. While plants usually bring life and positivity, some are believed to attract negative energy and disturb the balance of the home.
Unlucky Plants to Remove From Your Home
Here are six such plants she recommends either removing or placing carefully to help restore peace and prosperity.
Cactus
Cacti, though stylish, can produce harsh and confrontational vibes indoors. The sharp spines are thought to invite conflict and tension. Instead, Pooja suggests planting them on balconies or outdoor corners to protect your home without disrupting harmony.
Traditional Bamboo
Unlike lucky bamboo (Dracaena sanderiana), real bamboo is considered hazardous. Its hollow stems symbolise emptiness and unpredictability.
Ivy Plant
English ivy may feel romantic, but its invasive nature symbolically chokes a room’s energy. The Vastu belief is that it invites stagnation and suffocates vitality. If you love Ivy’s look, keep it outdoors to avoid silent decay inside your home.
Thorny Plants (Roses, Holly, Crown of Thorns)
Any plant with thorns, roses, holly, crown of thorns can cause spiritual unrest, according to Pooja. Their sharpness allegedly invites emotional friction and tension.

Yucca
Yucca is an architectural statement with its sharp, sword-like leaves. But Pooja warns this design directs cutting energy, known as attacking chi, toward a room’s centre.
Snake Plant
Snake plants are praised for air purification, but still carry ‘sha chi’ from their blade-like leaves. Pooja recommends placing them near walls to prevent sharp energy from affecting occupants directly.
Choosing the right plants can help make your home feel more peaceful. While your personal taste matters, it's also worth thinking about how some plants might affect the overall mood of your space.
