What Is Vaginitis?

Vaginitis is a condition that affects most women at least once in their lifetime. This disease results in the inflammation of the vagina, causing white discharge, itching, irritation, and pain. The inflammation in the vagina can be infectious or non-infectious. Vaginitis causes an imbalance in the natural acidity of the vagina. Vaginitis can often be confused with UTIs, as both diseases have similar symptoms. Many women are also victims of recurring vaginitis, which causes immense discomfort in daily activities.

What Causes Vaginitis?

Here are the few causes behind vaginitis:

  • Vaginitis can be caused by the non-maintenance of vaginal hygiene, which can lead to the overgrowth of bacteria and viruses already present in the vagina.
  • Overuse of scented female hygiene products with fragrance and chemicals can result in bacterial vaginosis (BV).
  • A poor diet, excessive stress, lifestyle changes during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and menopause can lead to vaginitis.
