Vaginal odours can vary and be affected by many different factors. It is crucial to have an understanding of the different types of vaginal smells to identify easily when an issue arises with your vaginal health. We spoke to Dr. Sadhna Singhal Vishnoi, Senior Consultant of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Cloudnine Group of Hospitals in New Delhi, about the different types of vaginal smells and the reasons behind them.

The 8 Different Types Of Vaginal Smell , Causes And Reasons

Here are the eight different types of vaginal smells, as per Dr. Sadhna Singhal Vishnoi:

1. Mild or Slightly Musky Vaginal Odour

This vaginal odour is natural and healthy. It results from both the pH of the vaginal environment being acidic and the normal balance of bacteria present.

2. Fishy Vaginal Odour

This is frequently linked to an imbalance of the normal bacteria in the vagina, known as bacterial vaginosis (BV). Trichomonas, a sexually transmitted infection, is another potential reason. Usually, medical attention is needed for both conditions.
