Several times, women get irregular periods, and sometimes no periods for a long time. There are also cases where women face abdominal pain and bleeding. When this happens, we do not realize the cause of why this is happening but these are all signs and indications of women not ovulating. On the other hand, ovulation is the period where a mature egg is released from the ovary.
Once a woman is ovulating correctly, only then she can release this egg where it further can be fertilized for about 12 to 24 hours after it’s released. To know more about this subject we spoke to Dr. Aswati Nair, Fertility Consultant, Nova IVF Fertility, Delhi, who told us the following things.
The Process Of Ovulation
As the egg moves to the uterus through the fallopian tubes after ovulation. Then the conception for a woman can occur if the sperm and egg meet at the right time. If someone is trying to conceive for the first time and wants to learn about female reproductivity and how it works, having some knowledge about the same would be helpful before trying to conceive, for the first time or even otherwise. Let’s talk about the ovulation function in detail to understand how ovulation and our menstrual cycles impact our fertility.
What Happens When We Are Ovulating?
Reproductive hormones such as estrogen and progesterone come together to activate ovaries during every menstrual cycle. Follicles in the ovaries begin to develop in response to the hormones. Each of the follicles contains an immature egg, also known as an oocyte that is beginning to mature.
Most women ovulate between days 11 and 21 and not always on the 14th of their cycle. The duration of the follicular process that typically lasts 10 to 16 days is an important determining factor. The luteal process will approximately last for about 14 days because its duration is constant.
Although it isn’t always a priority, late ovulation can trigger issues. Ovulation disorders are the cause of infertility in 25–30 percent of infertile couples. However, late ovulation does not mean that the possibility of ovulation would be done with.
When To Seek Fertility Counseling?
You must understand this as a couple that if you are having unprotected sex at ages above 35 years and still having troubles conceiving then perhaps it is time for you to evaluate your treatments and consider an intervention from your fertility expert.
Causes Of Late Ovulation
Breastfeeding, PCOS, Thyroid malfunctions, and high levels of stress are some of the factors causing late ovulation. It is important to take care of oneself in all such situations.
How To Boost Fertility Naturally?
Keeping yourself well-nourished increases the probability of becoming pregnant! Eating a healthy diet is very important to boost fertility naturally. Apart from that, one should not make use of unnecessary additives like drinking alcohol that are unnatural to the body. Watching your weight is also important as too much of body fat is unhealthy and can cause an overproduction of certain hormones that further lead to the disruption of ovulation, in addition to the other risks it poses to your health.
