Reduce Hair Fall: Do you know that there is a hormone in your body, which if blocked, can reduce hair loss? Do you know that you can block that hormone with just a few food items? Read the tips below shared by Manpreet, Nutritionist, on her Instagram profile.
What Is DHT Hormone?
DHT stands for Dihydrotestosterone. According to a report of Healthline, it is a sex hormone responsible for male characteristics like hair on various body parts. However, only a few people know that it can also cause hair loss, even in women.
Nutritionist Manpreet says that this hormone is produced in the body when there is an excess of progesterone. “Our body naturally transforms 5% of testosterone into DHT,” she added in her Instagram reel. She also shared a few food items that can help women block the hormone resulting in a reduction in hair fall.
Food Items That Block DHT
Turmeric Tea (Hair Fall)
According to a report by Healthline, turmeric has a high concentration of curcumin (curcuminoids). Studies in the past have shown that this compound lowers the levels of DHT because it can block the actions of the alpha-5 reductase enzyme.
Nutritionist Manpreet shared a recipe for turmeric tea. You have to add 1/2 a teaspoon of turmeric powder to 200ml of water. Boil it for a minute and two and drink it every day.
The said Healthline report talked about a study that revealed the ability of the pumpkin seeds to block the production of DHT by ceasing the actions of the alpha-5 reductase enzyme.
Dietitian Manpreet shared that women can introduce pumpkin seeds in their smoothies. You can drink these at breakfast. The smoothies and shakes can be made from varieties of fruits of your choice.
Onions (Hair Loss Tips)
Healthline report states that onions are rich in antioxidants. One of the crucial antioxidants includes quercetin. Studies have shown that this particular compound helps inhibit the production of DHT.
Thus, Manpreet suggested women start using onion oil. They must apply it on the scalp at least two times a week. It will help to prevent hair loss. You can also try squeezing out onion juice and applying it to the scalp.
Manpreet, in her reel, shared that green tea can help to block DHT production in the body. Hence, it will help to prevent hair falls. She suggests women should try drinking green tea with a pinch of cinnamon in the evening.
The Healthline reports state that coconut oil contains fat in a high percentage, mostly in the form of lauric acid. It blocks DHT. Thus, while sharing the advice on preventing hair fall, Manpreet suggested women have at least a slice of coconut in the mid-meal.

Mangoes (Food Items To Reduce Hair Fall)
Manpreet says that if women want to prevent hair loss, they must eat mangoes. She suggests eating the fruit at least three to four times a week mid-meal. It will block the DHT hormone.
The other suggestions of the nutritionist include adding tomatoes to the salads, adding ground flax seeds to your chapati and getting enough sunlight to ensure there is no vitamin D deficiency.
She also shared a recipe for an anti-hair smoothie. Take half a carrot, a handful of mint and coriander, a tomato, 200mL coconut water and a tablespoon of pumpkin seeds. Mix them in a grinder, and enjoy the refreshing drink.
