In a one-of-a-kind marriage, a 24-year old woman from Vadodara got married to herself. Kashma Bindu who got married to herself on 8th June in India’s first ever scenario of ‘sologamy’. She even took to Instagram to share pictures from her wedding ceremony.
It didn’t take much time for the netizens to make memes, and “sologamy” soon started trending on Twitter. While some congratulated the woman for marrying herself, others called the act a publicity stunt. Let’s take a look at what the netizens had to say about India’s first Sologamy.
Twitteratis React To Sologamy
A twitter user named Hikoulakpou Basil R Panmei commented, “What's the whole point of running after someone who doesn't love you when you can opt for sologamy? #sologamy.
Another twitter user Utkarsh Verma was quick to make a jibe at the traditional norms of the Indian wedding. He commented, “Same gotra mein shaadi nahi karte behen!”
K K Santhanam, a twitter user said, “I fail to understand human beings. #sologamy”
Making fun of the age-related comments Indian women sometimes face another twitter jeeringly said, “Well, How my maa sees I will end up if I don't get married before 28 #Sologamy.”
Another twitter user hailing from Vadodara said, “A woman from my city is all set to "marry herself"! Darwin is committing suicide in heaven...#Sologamy #Vadodara #Gujarat.”
Multiple memes cropped up too. Simran Waliya commented, “First-ever Atmanirbhar Indian! #Sologamy.”
Subham, a Twitter user replied to one of the posts on Sologamy and wrote, “So she gets involved in any relationship after this, will it be called extramarital affair? Just an enquiry
Also if she starts to hate herself, can she file for divorce?”
Deviation From The Norms
Last week, blogger and digital creator Kshama Bindu became an Internet sensation when she announced she wanted to marry herself.
Although as Indians we might have just been introduced to the concept of Sologamy by the 24-year-old sociology student of Vadodara, the practice has already been on the rise in the western countries. Sophie Tanner, a writer and sologamist from Brighton married herself way back in 2015. The idea dawned upon her when she was recovering from an illness and a bad relationship.
