If you thought we were living in modern times where every human is treated with equality and respect, a recent incident will sadly prove you wrong. A woman was shot for allegedly refusing a marriage proposal earlier this weekend. This is not the first time a woman has been assaulted and harassed over rejecting a man’s advances. Time and again, such cases come to light, leaving many shaken. From fear to feeling unsafe to being uncomfortable while going out, when such incidents occur, it is a loss for everyone. The common theme in such brutal assault cases is how men cannot take no for an answer. Let’s dive in to find out more about this case and how men can’t take ‘no’ with dignity.
This case recently took place over the weekend on December 20, 2025. A 25-Year-Old woman, Kalpana, was working at a club in Gurgaon. She was shot by Tushar after she allegedly refused a marriage proposal from a man.
Tushar had befriended Kalpana six months prior to this incident. He had been reluctant to marry Kalpana and kept asking her despite her turning him down on several occasions. Kalpana is married, and her husband was the one who lodged a police complaint against Tushar after this assault. Her husband also told the police about how Tushar had even turned up at their house and got into a fight a month before this.
On the night of this assault, Tushar, along with his friend, Shubham, went to the club, proposed to Kalpana again, and, upon refusal, shot the woman. Both Tushar and Shubham have been arrested by the police.

Such cases have become the highlight of our nation and are an example of how Indian men cannot take ‘no’ with dignity. We have seen cases similar to this earlier, like the murder of Jessica Lal, which have left the nation shaking to their core. The question still remains, how many more such cases need to occur before the men in our country learn to take ‘no’ for an answer. A simple ‘no’ should be their cue to back down and accept the refusal. We really need to do better as a nation, better as human beings.

We hope that Kalpana sees a speedy recovery and is brought to justice.
