Honestly, I can't even imagine cooking without garlic. It is one of the my key ingredients in the preparation of any dish. The flavour and fragrance it adds to any dish is just unmatched.
The only thing I don't like about using garlic while cooking is its smell that lingers for just too long. The odour can get to the head and become unbearable. So, recently, I started hunting for some easy ways to remove garlic smell from hands and found some effective ideas. I thought of sharing them with you. If you are facing a similar issue, here are some tips.
Create A Barrier
A lot of us who cook daily don't really have a habit to wear gloves in our kitchen but you can do this while mincing garlic. The glove will act as a barrier between your hands and the garlic. However, make sure you wear good, restaurant style gloves which have a good grip or you can end up hurting yourself while chopping garlic.
Get A Lemon
The citrus flavour and fragrance of lemon will help you get rid of the strong garlic smell. Cut the lemon into two and squeeze the juice on your palms. Massage it gently on your hands, between your fingers, on your nails. Keep for a few minutes and then wash with normal water. Don't try this tip if you have a cut or injury on your hands.
Coffee To The Resuce
If you are a coffee lover, you will love this quick remedy to get rid of garlic smelling hands. All you need is 1 tsp of coffee powder and some water. Wet your hands and scrub the coffee powder all over your hands gently. Do it for a few minutes till the coffee fragrance takes over the smell of garlic and then rinse your hands with normal water.
Another effective way of getting rid of the garlic smell is using toothpaste on your hands. The fresh, minty fragrance of your toothpaste will help you remove garlic smell quickly. Spread toothpaste on your hand, fingers and nails. Keep for a few minutes and then wash with normal water. Follow with washing your hands with soapy water.
Try The Stainless Steel Method
This one is a tried and tested remedy. Turn on the tap and rub a stainless steel spoon or bowl or plate on your hands. Do this for a few minutes and the garlic odour will go away. If the smell doesn't go away in one go, do this for a few more minutes.

Baking Soda And Salt Paste Works Well

You can avoid using your hand completely while chopping, mincing garlic. For this, add garlic bulb in a jar and close it. Shake it fast for a few minutes and you will see garlic cloves getting separated. Continue to shake it to remove the peel.
You can next add garlic cloves to a food processor to mince it. This will prevent your hands from getting that pungent smell.
