We all have leftover dals in our fridge almost every second day and when someone doesn’t eat it, we are compelled to throw it away. But wasting food is just not appropriate, more so when you can get all innovative and prepare really cool dishes out of the leftover food. It can be a secret and you can surprise your family with dal paranthas, kebabs, sambhar -dosa, or even kurkuri dal sticks. So, let’s see how you can prepare these with leftover dal. Take a look.

Dal Kebabs

Ingredients

  • Bread Crumbs
  • 2 Tablespoons Chopped Onions
  • 1 Tablespoon Chopped Green Chilies
  • 1 Tablespoon Coriander Leaves
  • 1/2 Teaspoons Of Black Pepper Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoons Of Cumin Powder,
  • 1/2 Teaspoons Of Garam Masala Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoons Of Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Grated Ginger 

Method

  • So the first way to reuse leftover dal is to make kebabs out of it. So, for this method, you need a little thick consistency of the daal, like a chana dal or so. 
  • If the consistency of your dal is not so thick and dry cook it on a pan and dry out the moisture. If you still feel that the dal is not thick enough then you can also add fresh bread crumbs to make its consistency thick. Bread crumbs will also make the kebabs crisper.
  • So, start by taking your thick dough-like dal in a bowl and add finely chopped onions, chopped green chilies, and coriander leaves, and then finally add black pepper powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, red chili powder, and grated ginger. 
  • Now mix the ingredients together and shape kebabs out of it.
  • Roast them on a preheated pan on a medium flame and then add oil to fry the kebabs nicely, turn and cook.

Dal Paranthas

  • 1/4th Cup Onions
  • 1 Teaspoon Green Chopped Chilies
  • 1 Tablespoon Coriander Leaves
  • 1 Teaspoon Ginger
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Red Chili Powder 
  • Salt
  • 1 Cup Of Wheat Flour

Method

  • The next way to reuse leftover dal is to make paranthas out of it.
  • Take your leftover dal in a bowl and onions, green chopped chilies, coriander leaves, ginger, red chili powder, and salt to taste. 
  • Now add wheat flour to this and mix it into a dough. Roll parathas using a rolling pin and then cook them like you usually do.

Kurkuri Dal Sticks

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Semolina
  • 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Red Chili Powder

Method

  • We can also Kurkuri dal sticks with leftover dal. So, for this, you need 1 cup chana dal(thick, without moisture), semolina,cornstarch, red chilli powder.
  • Then mix these ingredients together in a thick and smooth dough.
  • Next, pinch small balls out of it and make sticks with the help of your fingers, deep fry these sticks and enjoy with tomato sauce or green dhaniya chutney.

Sambhar

Sambhar

Ingredients

  • Oil
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 8-10 Curry Leaves
  • 2 Tablespoons Of Sambhar Powder
  • Salt
  • Imly Water

Method

  • Now, let's reuse our leftover dal by making sambhar out of it. So, in a deep pan add 2 tablespoons of oil. After the oil heats up, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and some chopped vegetables like onions, tomatoes, ladyfingers, or any other vegetable that is present at home.
  • Now finally add sambhar powder and mix well, then add 2 cups of leftover dal and 1 cup of water.
  • Adjust the salt and let it cook.
  • Once the sambhar is fully cooked, we will add imly water to it, and then your sambhar will be ready to enjoy with dosa(8 varieties of dosa you should try) or idlis.
