  • A lot of people prepare mithaais at home and for the same, they purchase ingredients from sweet shops. Make sure you check all the ingredients, especially milk, khoya, ghee or paneer. This is because they have higher chances of adulteration.  To check the milk, take some milk on a spoon and leave it to flow on a slanting plate, if it flows leaving behind a white trail, it is pure. If it leaves no trail behind, it is adulterated. One of the best methods to test ghee is by putting it right to the fridge and then after some time, take it out and check if there are two layers formed on the ghee, it means, it is real. Another way is by placing some ghee on your palm. If it starts melting quickly then it is real ghee! A lot of vendors use harmful chemicals to prepare paneer. Make sure you purchase it from a trusted vendor.

  • Most mithaais have silver vark on them. To check this silver vark, you can check by touching the vark with your finger. If it feels harsh and comes on to your finger then it may be fake.

  • Check the hygiene standards of the sweets shop before buying sweets from there. There are chances that the shop maintains a really bad hygiene and offers unhygienically prepared sweets that may be harmful for your health. If you are purchasing packaged sweets, check the packaging date. Also check the number of days the sweets can be consumed.

Mithaai like kaju ki barfi, motichoor ke ladoo are very popular during this time and they are more likely to be adulterated. Make sure you check your mithaais before buying them. Have a happy and healthy Diwali!
