He recommends practising Child’s Pose, Baddha Konasana (Bound Angle Pose), Ustrasana (Camel Pose), Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend Pose), and Dhanurasana (Bow Pose) for period relief. Though, people think that doing exercise during periods can be unsafe Dr Astha Dayal, Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at CK Birla Hospital in Gurugram said, “Yes, it is usually safe to exercise during menstruation.” However, she recommends doing moderate-intensity exercises such as walking, light jogging, swimming and yoga.
Drinking Herbal Teas
While period pain can make you feel lethargic and weak, keeping oneself hydrated can help a lot. Dr Hari Lakshmi, Consultant Dietitian and Nutritionist, Motherhood Hospitals shared a few drinks that can be great in ensuring relief. She suggests ginger water, Tamarind Turmeric Drink, Green Smoothies, Fennel Tea, Chamomile Tea, and Pineapple Juice. These drinks possess antioxidant properties which help reduce inflammation and bring relief.

Avoid Certain Food Items
Periods might lead to unnecessary cravings for junk food but Mugdha Pradhan, CEO and Founder, of iThrive, shared about a few food items that can add to the menstrual pain. She recommends avoiding caffeine, dairy products, seed oils, processed food, sugar, and gluten-loaded food items during periods.

According to research published in the National Library of Medicine, “Auricular acupressure effectively increases parasympathetic activity to maintain autonomic function homeostasis in young women with primary dysmenorrhea and may have a value in alleviating menstrual pain and menstrual distress in a high-stress life.”
