If you are a smoker, a tea or coffee addict or don’t take care of your teeth then they are bound to have yellow stains. The situation can be very embarrassing when we laugh or smile and there are some people who even point it out irrespective of where you are. So here are a few remedies that can be looked at and tried at home itself which may help you out.
This one is no brainer but still, some people do not pay attention to the basics. You need to spend at least two minutes to brush your teeth and brush on every nook and cranny in your mouth. One must brush after consuming food and drinks especially if they are acidic in nature. However, try not to make a habit of it as too much brushing can erode the enamel of your teeth.
This is an ayurvedic way of mouth cleansing. Coconut oil pulling is said to help in getting rid of plaque and bacteria and keeps the teeth clean and white. However, buy a good quality, organic oil, which is devoid of harmful ingredients.
Swish a tablespoon of oil in your mouth for a minimum of 10 to maximum 30 minutes but do not gulp it down. Spit it in the toilet and not in the sink as it can clog the drain. Then rinse with water and have a glass of water. The last step here is to brush your teeth.
This formula is useful but takes some time to show the best results. Make a paste using baking soda and hydrogen peroxide which will help in getting rid of plaque buildup and bacteria. Mix 2 tbsp of hydrogen peroxide with 1 tbsp baking soda to make a paste. Clean your mouth with it and then rinse with water. If you do not have peroxide then water can also be tried in making the paste.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Use a very small amount of apple cider vinegar for tooth whitening. Just mix 2 tsp of it with little water and swish it in your mouth for not more than 30 seconds. Rinse with water and brush as usual.
Banana, Lemon, Or Orange Peels
It is said that by rubbing the peels of orange, banana or even lemon, can whiten teeth. The peels have a compound called d-limonene and/or citric acid that does the job. Rub them on your teeth for a minute or two and then rinse it well with water. However, it is not that effective a formula. It cleans very mild stains.
Use activated charcoal as it is said to be very helpful in removing stains and pigments from your teeth. Charcoal is highly absorbent which makes it excellent for getting rid of bacteria and toxins in the mouth. These days even toothpaste brands have this as a dominating ingredient.
Buy some capsules of activated charcoal, cut it open and put them on your toothbrush. Gently brush your teeth in circles for a minute or two. But keep a little distance from your gums as it can be abrasive. Spit it out and rinse your mouth with water.
You can also use it in your mouthwash. Mix a small amount in your regular mouthwash or the DIY one, swish for a minute, and then spit.
