Summer is synonymous with many things – the warmth of the sun, lazy afternoons, and perhaps most delightfully, the juicy sweetness of mangoes. However, it is commonly advised by many to soak mangoes in water during the summer season. We spoke to Dr. Mickey Mehta, a holistic health coach, to share expert input as to why you need to soak mangoes in water.
Mangoes are everyone’s favourite fruit during the scorching summer months. Dr. Mehta emphasised that consuming mangoes in their purest form throughout the season can work wonders for your health. Packed with soluble and insoluble fibre, mangoes promote gut, skin, and hair health. Dr. Mehta affirmed, "If you indulge in mangoes as nature intended, you might not need any other vitamins all year round."
The benefits of mangoes extend beyond mere nutrition. Dr. Mehta explained that mangoes offer a boost of immunity and vitality during the scorching summer months. Their cooling properties help to counterbalance the body's internal heat, providing a refreshing respite from the sweltering weather. Dr. Mehta suggests, "Instead of rushing to the refrigerator, consider soaking mangoes in water for a few hours."

Dr. Mehta explained, "So, instead of putting it in the refrigerator each time before you eat, kindly soak it for a few hours, so that the excess phytic acid is removed, any residue of the pesticide is removed, and importantly, the heat of the mango, which is the ambient environmental heat, could create some disturbance in our health.” Dr. Mehta advocated for pairing mangoes with milk, hailing it as the ultimate summer superfood. "Milk provides calcium, protein, and vitamins, while mangoes offer a treasure trove of nutrients, energy, and sweetness," she added.
