We all have a misconception that nails are just there to enhance the appearance of our hands. However, they say a lot about our bodies and health. You don’t have to undergo expensive medical tests all the time to know about your health. Sometimes our skin tone, complexion, nail conditions, and hair conditions reveal a lot about our body. Even the slightest change in the nail condition reveals a lot. Read on to know the meaning behind the half-moon on nails which is quite common in people.
In a healthy person, one can always find the half-moon shape at the bottom of the nail. It’s a symbol that reveals a lot about health. The half-moon shape that appears on the nails is called lunula. The lunula is a part of your nail matrix which is the tissues beneath the hails. The matrix contains nerves, blood vessels and lymph. The lunula produces the cells that will become your nails once hardened. Half moons are half of the nail’s matrix. This matrix is referred to as the nail root. The presence of a half moon is the symbol of healthy nails and body.
Half moon is typically spotted on the thumb. A healthy lunula is usually whitish or paler than the rest of your nails. However, it appears on your index or medium finger as well but is rarely visible on your small finger.
When the half moon is not present at the base of the nail (how to get rid of discoloured nail) in a person, then it indicates health issues. It might be possible that the person must be suffering from malnutrition, depression or anaemia. Check your nails and if it starts appearing red and you experience symptoms like dizziness, anxiety and lightheadedness, consult a doctor.
