Ever feel unusually drained, even after a full night’s sleep? Or notice a shift in your mood as the seasons change? This happens because of weather-related fatigue. Our bodies work hard to adapt to fluctuating temperatures, varying daylight hours, and changes in air pressure. These shifts can disrupt our natural rhythms, leaving us feeling sluggish, unmotivated, and mentally foggy. Ms. Disha Sharma, child psychologist, LISSUN Mental Health Platform, shares more.

What Is Weather-Related Fatigue?

Weather-related fatigue happens when our bodies, immune system, and musculoskeletal system get challenged after being habituated to a particular climate. For example, in winter, we are not as active as we will be during summer or when the temperatures are comfortable.

Moreover, during the cold climate, the days are shorter, and a dip in overall temperature "can lower energy levels and impact mood. In summer, excessive heat and dehydration can lead to exhaustion. Even during milder transitions, humidity, allergies, and disrupted sleep patterns can tak a toll," observes Ms. Disha Sharma.

And it's not only in winter and summer. Even during the rainy season, we undergo a lot of physical and mental health changes. We may feel tired, sluggish, and lazy as the climate remains gloomy usually and we are stuck indoors due to waterlogging, sickness, or /and several other reasons.

4 Ways You Can Manage Weather-Related Fatigue

When your daily routine is impacted due to the weather, you may feel blue. The situation exacerbates when one is locked inside homes, in which case we feel more tired.

To combat weather-related fatigue, Ms. Disha Sharma suggests 4 helpful strategies:

1) Prioritize Rest

Your body needs time to reset. Maintain a consistent sleep schedule, wake up with natural light, and wind down at night without screens.

2) Fuel Yourself Right

Seasonal fruits, leafy greens, and proper hydration can do wonders for your energy levels. Avoid excessive caffeine or processed foods that lead to crashes.

3) Get Moving

Physical activity—whether it’s a brisk walk in the sun or light stretching indoors—helps combat fatigue, releases endorphins and enhances circulation.

4) Be Kind to Yourself

Feeling drained doesn’t mean you’re unmotivated—it means your body is adjusting. Listen to it, slow down if needed, and practice self-compassion.

"If fatigue persists or affects your daily life, seek support. The weather may shift, but your strength remains constant—embrace it, harness it, and thrive through every season!" wraps up Ms. Disha Sharma.
