Moringa powder, derived from the leaves of the Moringa oleifera tree, has gained popularity for its nutritional benefits, rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. However, like any supplement, it may cause side effects, particularly if consumed in excess or under certain conditions. Divya Malik, Nutritionist, Apollo Cradle and Children’ hospital, Delhi shared a few safety tips considering the side effects of consuming moringa powder.
Here are the safety tips you can consider for the potential side effects of moringa powder:
Divya Malik highlighted that high doses of Moringa powder may cause digestive problems like nausea, diarrhoea, or bloating if consumed in excess amounts. Divya recommends consulting a doctor before consuming moringa regularly to keep gastrointestinal issues at bay.
According to Divya, moringa has been shown to lower blood pressure and blood sugar levels. While this may be beneficial for individuals with hypertension or diabetes, it can be problematic for people on medication for these conditions. It might cause blood pressure or blood sugar to drop too low, leading to dizziness or fainting. According to Divya, start with a small dose, like half to one teaspoon per day to examine the reaction.
Moringa may interfere with certain medications, particularly those for diabetes, high blood pressure, and thyroid conditions. Therefore, Divya recommends consulting a healthcare provider before using moringa powder if you are on any medication to avoid potential interactions. Some individuals may experience allergic reactions to moringa powder, including itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing.
