Winters are here and the chilly season calls for different skincare routine. That's because the temperature drastically drops, our blood vessels begin to tighten, leaving our skin dry and dull.
For all these changes, our skin requires a special skincare regime. There isn't a fixed skincare routine which everyone can follow because we are all blessed with different skin types and issues.
With the arrival of winters, we usually see some changes in our skin and depending on the same we should set an everyday skincare routine. To know your skin type, you just need to pay attention to your skin. Does it feel tighter and dryer or it has started to turn flaky? Does it feel less oily or you see more oil on the T-zone? Check for these changes and you will know what is your skin type for the winter season and you can accordingly choose your skincare.
We spoke to, Megha Asher, Co-founder, Juicy Chemistry and she shared an easy winter skincare routine for different skin types. Read on.
Winter Skincare Routine
Step 1 - Cleansing
No skincare is complete without cleansing. Cleansing helps clear out any impurities on your face. It also clears out the sebum without stripping the natural moisture of your skin. The expert shared that it is important to choose a cleanser as per your skin type. Those with dry skin should opt for a gentle and nourishing face cleanser. For oily skin type, one should pick a face cleanser which cleanses deeply and also clears the excess sebum. Combination skin type needs a face wash which helps balance the skin and nourishes it.
Step 2 - Exfoliation
Exfoliation is a must during the winter season for all skin types. Be it dry or oily skin, every skin type requires deep exfoliation. Scrubbing helps in removing dead skin cells, dirt, grime from the skin, leaving you with healthy and radiant skin. However, the expert suggested not going overboard with exfoliation as it can leave the skin irritated.
Step 3 - Tone
During the winter season, our skin loses its hydration. That's because during the winter season, water starts to evaporate from our skin's layer, it is called Transepidermal Water Loss. Using a toner is thus essential. Spritzing a toner helps in hydrating your skin. Someone with a dry and sensitive skin type should choose a toner with ingredients like aloe vera. For oily skin type, one must use a toner which hydrates and balances the skin at the same time like rose water.

Step 4 - Moisturise
It is crucial to add a moisturiser or a face oil to your skincare regime to ensure there is no water loss and the skin's barrier remains healthy. Oils like pomegranate, plum oil can be used which are rich in antioxidants and also provide your skin with a radiant glow.
Those will dry skin will need to moisturise their skin more during the winter season. Face oils should can be used both during the morning and night skincare routine.
Don't Miss The Sunscreen
Lastly, the expert shared that one must not miss using sunscreen during the winter season. Many think that during the winter season our skin doesn't need a layer of sunscreen. Well, that's not true. Our skin is still at the risk of sunburn during the winter season. The sun is actually closer to the earth during the winter months and the chances of sunburn is much higher in this season.
Sunscreen should be worn around the year because it reduces the risk of cancer. The harmful UVB rays are often linked to skin cancer as per a lot of studies.
