Our skin begins to feel a lot more dryer during this time of the year and believe us, the situation is much worse for those who have naturally dry skin. Dry skin folks suffer from major breakouts, acne during the winter season.

There are a lot of skincare products available in the market which are specially curated to cater to dry skin. However, there is a wide variety and it can be hard to find the one.
We spoke to Dr. Noopur Jain, Founder Consultant Dermatologist at Skinzest and asked her to share some remedies for dry skin. The expert shared, "It is easier to check out simple natural home remedies for your dry skin. There are a few products which you can find in your kitchen cabinets."
Honey is a natural humecant. This means that it draws moisture into the skin from the air. It has moisturising properties which is why is it a key ingredient in most creams and lotions available in the market.
The enzymes present in honey get deep into the skin and condition, soften it. The expert shared that because honey is a natural ingredient and commonly used base ingredient in most beauty products, it can be used directly on the skin to treat dryness.
How To Use Honey For Dry Skin?
In a bowl, add honey. Dip a cotton ball into it and apply all over your face and neck. Keep for 15-20 minutes and then wash with cold water.
Aloe vera is one of the most talked about skincare products and it is for a reason. Aloe vera produces mucopolysaccharides, which helps to lock the moisture inside the skin. The hydrating properties in aloe vera make it just the ideal ingredient for dry skin. You can also replace it with your regular moisturiser.
How To Use Aloe Vera For Dry Skin?
If you have dry patches on your skin, you can directly use aloe vera on your face. Let it soak in and then wash.
If you feel redness or itchiness on your face then you can apply aloe vera at night before going to bed. Use it as an overnight mask and wash your face in the morning.
One of the most commonly used ingredients in Indian kitchens, coconut oil can do wonders for dry skin. Coconut oil improves skin hydration and is gentle enough for everyday use. Coconut oil can be directly applied to the dry areas on the face and it keeps the skin hydrated.
The expert shared that coconut oil might not be a great option for acne prone skin so it is best to try and test it beforehand.
How To Use Coconut Oil For Dry Skin?
To get the best results, use coconut oil overnight. Wash your face with a regular cleanser and pat dry. Follow with a thin layer of coconut oil on face and neck. Keep it overnight and wipe with a tissue in the morning. If you don't wish to keep the oil overnight, apply it on clean face and wipe off after 30 minutes.
Though the above three are all natural ingredients and shouldn't have any side effects on your skin, make sure you do a patch test on your hand if you are using them on your face for the first time.
If you have extreme dry skin then it is a serious skin condition and home remedies might not help in that case. It is best to seek help from an expert dermatologist if suffering from extreme dry skin.
