Ants are fine as long as they mind their own business in their own area but once they enter our homes, it is a task to get rid of them. The red ones and the big black ones bite. They mess up all the sugar items and even nuts. The unhygienic factor comes into play and that is a hindrance for us all. So here are some natural remedies that can keep them away and help us get rid of them.
Glass Cleaner Solution
Hope you have been keeping a few empty spray bottles for different purposes as this solution certainly utilises one. Combine a glass cleaner liquid with some dish soap, in a spray bottle. This solution will make the ants turn away from your home as it helps in removing the scented pheromone trail they leave behind. So spray the liquid wherever you think they originate from and wipe it down with a cloth with very light residue left behind which is enough for them.
This easily found ingredient in every kitchen is not just good for our food palette but it helps in getting rid of the annoying ants as well. Ants get irritated from the smell of pepper so you just have to sprinkle some on the platform or on some baseboard and place it behind appliances or the areas where you think the ants love to hang out in your kitchen.
This powder-like substance is a type of silica that has fossilised remains of aquatic organisms called diatoms. It isn't poisonous but it kills all ants and bugs by soaking in all the oil their skeletons have. It dries them out. The catch although is that you cannot afford to breathe it in or enter your skin so be very careful.
This is a natural repellent as it is majorly used as a mosquito repellent. All you have to do is mix 2 cups of water with 15 drops of peppermint oil and spray it wherever you think they enter from. Keep the spray away from pets.
Hand soap doesn't just clean hands but a solution of soapy water is said to be great for removing the scent of ant pheromones. So spray it on all ant trails and wherever you think they enter from. These trails are a major contributor to their means of communication with each other.
Tea Tree Oil
This oil does not just treat acne but also repels and kills ants. Combine 7 drops of it with 2 cups of water in a spray and shake well. Another way is it that you soak cotton balls in it and place them around your home where you’ve seen ants. If you feel that the fragrance is too strong, simply mix it with peppermint oil and water. Keep it away from cats.

Lemon Eucalyptus Oil
When you extract the oil from a lemon eucalyptus tree you get a natural bug repellent. This oil contains citronella, which many candles meant for repelling flying bugs. Just do not ingest it and keep it away from kids. You can also use cotton balls by dipping them in the solution properly and placing them where you think it is necessary. Remember to change the balls weekly.
Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil
Interestingly, the compounds in cinnamon leaf essential oil, have trans-cinnamaldehyde, which are said to be very good for killing and repelling ants. Do the same as the other essential oils using cotton.
If you are a coffee drinker then it is time to use coffee grounds. The brewed grouds are said to a very good anecdote that keeps the bug away. Sprinkle the grounds on index cards, or any other disposable surfaces like a paper plate or bowls and leave them near the pet bowls and plants where ants tend to walk the most. Once they become dry, throw them and replenish.
