Whether in the form of a concern through a relative or in the form of a distasteful remark from the neighbouring nosy aunt, body shaming is something almost all women have been subjected to in today’s world. When one is an actress and lives under the spotlight, this becomes all the more difficult. We might want to think that being an actor is easy but it comes with its own set of perils. Actresses have a hard time dealing with all the negativity that the social media brings with itself. From trolling to negative comments to shaming, these actresses have to bear the brunt of being in the limelight. Here are the three actresses who got trolled for their post-pregnancy weight.
Neha Dhupia is undoubtedly a fierce woman and she certainly knows how to deal with all the negativity. She is certainly not the one to stay silent or hold back. Neha Dhupia believes that it is unfair that new moms are subjected to such insensitive comments. Neha Dupia herself was trolled for putting on post-pregnancy weight. After giving birth to Mehr Dhupia Bedi, the actress did not get any acting opportunities because of her post-pregnancy weight despite having won an award for her previous film Tumhari Sulu alongside Vidya Balan.
Famed for her character Monisha Sarabhai in the popular comedy sitcom ‘Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai’, Rupali Ganguly is certainly a strong and resilient woman. After giving birth to Rudransh, the actress got trolled terribly. Talking about the insensitive comments, she said in an interview “From 58 kilos when I delivered Rudransh, I went up to 86 kilos. When I would take my child out for a walk, certain neighbouring aunties that I didn’t even know… ‘Arre, tum toh Monisha ho, kitni moti ho gayi ho (You are the actor who plays Monisha, right? You have gained so much weight).’ Who gives anybody a right to judge a mother? Nobody knows the kind of issues that a woman is going through.”

Wife of Jay Bhanushali and a popular TV actress, Mahi Vij was also a victim of body shaming. The actress was trolled for her post-pregnancy weight gain on Instagram. She gave a befitting reply to the trolls and said “Was your mom thin after delivering you?”. She further wrote down on her instagram post “To all the idiots who are worried about my weight. My priority is feeding my baby and not MY FIGURE”. She is not the one to be bogged down by the insensitive comments of these trolls. Body shaming in any form is a malpractice and we ought to ensure that we don’t hurt our loved ones or others unknowingly. It can hamper someone’s self-esteem and confidence in a flash. To make the world a better place, we ought to be empathetic individuals first.
