These Bel Juice Recipes Are Amazing To Kill This Scorching Heat

We understand it is very hot this year with scorching heat killing the mood to shop, exhausting us, preventing us from going shopping. But I have an uber cool solution! Treat yourself to bel ka juice which has amazing cooling properties. You could even carry some in a bottle or a thermos. Bel juice is good for cooling your body as well as for curing of constipation because of its laxative properties. It is very comforting when you have heartburn, acidity, hyperacidity or indigestion. Here are two simple recipes, one for the lactose intolerant and one for those who don't mind giving their glass of milk an interesting stir.

What Is Bel or Beal or Wooden Apple?

Bel is a fruit which is called elephant apple because it is a favourite food of elephants, while in other areas, it gets the name wood apple because of its hard wooden shell. It is considered sacred by Hindus and is widely cultivated in India. This fruit is also found in Sri Lanka, Thailand, and other regions in the southern part of Asia. The bel tree can grow up to 30 feet in height and the edible fruits are 5-9cm in diameter. Their shells are tough, and the inside consists of a brownish pulp and small white seeds. You can have the pulp raw or as a juice or frozen. It can also be mixed with coconut milk for a delicious, healthy beverage or frozen into ice cream.

Bel Milkshake

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cup bel fruit pulp  
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional
  • 1 cup water

Method:

  • Open bel fruit and scoop out the pulp.
  • Mash the pulp with your hands or a serving spoon... whatever best way you can.  
  • Add a little water and pass the pulp through the sieve to remove seeds.
  • Use as little water as you can for a thick shake.
  • Add milk, bel fruit pulp, and sugar in your blender and blend.
  • It is ready to serve.

 

Bel Sharbat

Ingredients:

  • 3 small to medium sized bel fruit
  • 3 to 3.5 cups chilled water
  • 12 tbsp jaggery
  • 1/3 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1/3 tsp roasted cumin powder
  • 2 pinches black salt

Method:

  • Take the bel fruits and take out the pulp.
  • Add water.
  • Soak the mixture for 20 minutes.
  • After 20 minutes mash the pulp again and strain it out. Add some water while straining.
  • After straining, add 12 tbsp jaggery and a bit of sugar. 
  • Add roasted cumin powder, cardamom powder, and black salt.
  • Mix well and serve.
