For parents of children with autism and special healthcare needs, daily caregiving often involves navigating communication barriers, sensory sensitivities, behavioural concerns, and complex healthcare requirements. Amid these priorities, oral health can become one of the most challenging aspects of routine care despite its significant impact on overall well-being.

Why They Need Your Special Attention

Children with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, developmental delays, ADHD, and other special healthcare needs may experience difficulties that make oral care routines challenging. Sensory sensitivities can make young children feel a toothbrush, the taste or texture of toothpaste, or even the sound of brushing is uncomfortable for them. Some children may struggle to cooperate with oral hygiene routines, while others may have physical limitations that make brushing and flossing difficult.
