According to a report released by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2023, more than 2.3 million cases of breast cancer occur each year, commonly among the adults. “In 95% of countries, breast cancer is the first or second leading cause of female cancer deaths. Yet, survival from breast cancer is widely inequitable between and within countries; nearly 80% of deaths from breast and cervical cancer occur in low- and middle-income countries,” the report read.
While factors like genetics and age duly impact the development of cancer cells in the body, regular screenings for conditions like breast cancer, cervical cancer, and ovarian cancer are considered to be extremely significant in the prevention, control and cure of these diseases.
