Amid the current situation of corona virus, travel industry has suffered the most. There are some states in our country those are dependent largely upon tourism such as Jammu & Kashmir. Travel industry of Jammu & Kashmir has not only suffered due to the pandemic but there are various reasons affecting it.
Prime Minister Development Project in Kokernag
To promote tourism in Kokernag in South Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has started to build infrastructure under Prime Minister Development Project at a cost of ₹3.5 crore.
Kokernag is heaven on earth hidden in the Breng valley of Jammu & Kashmir’ Anantnag district. Located at an altitude of around 2012 metres above the sea level, this place is already a favourite holiday spot for people of Srinagar during the summers, but now the aim is to make it a favourite for everyone. This project has been picked up to boost up the tourism in the district. Under the project, new resorts, huts, cafes and many other tourist attraction spots are going to be constructed.
Apart from this, a proposal of a tunnel has been submitted for the purposes of connectivity. This tunnel can bring a huge change in the tourism of the district.
Although, the whole district of Anantnag is extremely beautiful, but a tourist point such as Kokernag is being given special importance to make it a rage amongst travellers. With these coming up developments, it will surely become a famous tourist spot.
Although, a lockdown is imposed due to the pandemic, but the authorities have allowed the construction to begin under Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) by following the Covid protocols.
A proposal for tourist festival has also come up to attract more and more tourists. This has been taken into serious consideration and will be discussed with the tourism department so that maximum number of tourists can show up.

This lovely garden is a must visit in Kokernag. The place rich in flora and fauna, consists a variety of plants and trees which you cannot miss at any cost. The incredible garden is not only popular in Kokernag but is prominent in the whole state of Jammu & Kashmir.
The place is filled with a collection of small springs emerging together into the largest fresh water spring of Kashmir. The waterfalls are surrounded by a variety of plants and flowers adding to the beauty of already spectacular waterfall. Additionally, these waterfalls are said to have unbelievable healing properties.
Achabal is yet another tourist spot in Kakernag famous in the whole state of jammu & Kashmir. It is famous for its lovely Achabal gardens developed by the Mughal emperors. Plus, the place has a gorgeous spring gushing out from the Sosanwar Hill.

How To Reach
The best way to reach Kokernag is by air. The nearest airport is at badgam district which is 70 kms away from Kokernag.
The next best way is to go by train. It is 2 hours away from Jammu railway station.
Kokernag also has well-connected and well-maintained roads which can be easily used to reach by car or taxi.
