Pitru Paksha 2023: Who Performs Shraddha for People with no Children or Relatives

Pitru Paksha has begun and during this time, the ancestors are worshipped and asked for blessings as it is believed that they come to earth during the Pitru Paksha. The rituals of Shradh are performed in honour of the ancestors to please them. 

The belief is that the person who does not perform Shradh is inflicted with the Pitru Dosha and that person never gets success in life. Therefore, it is very important to perform Pind Daan during this time. 

Some people may be wondering about the ones who died without having any children, who is supposed to perform the Shradh rituals for them. Who Generally Performs Shradh During Pitru Paksha?

• The astrologer mentioned that only the son has the capability to provide salvation from hell which is why performing Shradh is considered so important. If there are no sons, other members of the family can also perform Shradh.
• In the absence of a son, Shradh can be performed by the wife.
• If the person dies unmarried, people born in his own family can also perform Shradh.

• The deceased person’s nephew, son-in-law or grandson can also perform Shradh.
• If there is no son, grandson or great-grandson, then the widow can also perform Shradh.
• The adopted son is also permitted to do the Shradh rituals.

Pitru Paksha: Rules

• While performing Shradh, you must not be facing towards the south.
• One should avoid disputes and conflicts during Pitru Paksha as according to the scriptures, the ancestors may get angry otherwise.
• Use copper, bronze and silver utensils or plates while offering Pind Daan as it is believed to be auspicious. (Things To Offer To Cows During Shradh)
• Donate food, water and clothes to a Brahmin or any needy person after performing Shradh. This will satisfy the ancestors and you will receive their blessings and you won’t face any problems.
