In Vishal Bhardwaj’s next, “Patakha”, Sanya will be playing one of the two warring sisters. The movie is based on Charan Singh’s story “Do Behnein”. Life After Dangal

A lot changed after Dangal. Our lives became easier after the movie. Obviously, it was a perfect debut movie for me. Work started flowing in on its own after the movie. I didn't have to stand in lines for auditions or wait for months for one single casting call.

Dangal gave me the opportunity to fulfill my childhood dream to act. A lot of scripts started coming to me after Dangal. One of them is Photograph opposite Nawazudin Siddiqui and Badhai Ho opposite Ayushmaan and then came Vishal sir's Patakha.

The “Patakha” Journey

When I met Vishal Ji for Patakha, he told me that the story revolves around two sisters who dislike each other and always fight. I really liked my character. I always wanted to do something like this. Chutki was a very challenging character for me. When I gave my audition, Vishal ji texted me that he really liked it. There is no actor who would not want working with him. I am a fangirl and I used to watch his movies Maqbool, Haider and always used to wish that I get to work him someday. I am really happy that this early in my career I got an opportunity to work with him. Vishal ji told me to put on 10 kgs and look five shades darker for the movie. I was always up for all the challenges because I really wanted to work with him.

We did a lot of readings because dialect was a big challenge. The dialect was very similar to Haryanvi dialect that I used in Dangal and this is why it wasn't that tough to get hold of. Also, my character is very different from my real life. Chutki is very loud, always shouting, fighting.

Getting Into The Character

We did a lot of workshops with Atul Mongia who is an acting coach. He taught us a lot, not only professionally but personally too. Radhika and I did a lot of workshops where learned a lot and till the time we reached the sets, we had no hesitation and performed with ease. Our makeup helped us a lot to get into the character. Makeup played half the role in helping us to get into the character. As soon as I got into my costume and makeup, I instantly felt like my character, Chutki.

Shooting In 28 Days

When we used to get the call time, we were all shocked that how will the shoot happen that way. But because we did a lot of workshops and practice we all went easy. As soon as we reached the sets, we did it in a flow. We were all focussed on working. We were always in character. We used to shoot for 14 hours every day. It all went very organically and we never knew it would be all done in 28 days.

Patakha is the story of two warring sisters. The trailer of the movie is out and getting loads of love from all over. The movie starring Sanya Malhotra, Radhika Madan and Sunil Grover is scheduled to release on 28th September 2018.
