‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’ Lyricist Saawan Kumar Tak Passes Away At 86

Saawan Kumar Tak was admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubai Ambani Hospital for lung ailments. He passed away at the age of 86.

Saawan Kumar Tak, a renowned writer, lyricist, and filmmaker, passed away Friday at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. He was 86 years old. He had a history of pulmonary issues, and was fighting for his life in the intensive care unit.

On Tuesday, the director suffered a heart attack and was taken to the ICCU. He was also afflicted with a lung condition, as his nephew Navin Kumar Tak revealed. His heart and lungs weren't working properly, added Navin. 

Saawan Kumar Tak started his career in the Hindi film industry as a producer with Naunihal in 1967. Later, in 1972, he made his debut as a director with Gomti Ke Kinare, Meena Kumari's final motion picture. In addition to this, Sawan Kumar Tak was renowned for providing Mehmood Junior, also known as Naeem Sayyed, a break. He also wrote the lyrics for songs like “Pyaar Ki Kashti Mein”, “Janeman Janeman” and “Chand Sitaare” for Rakesh Roshan’s 2000 romance action film “Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai”, which marked the debut of Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel, Sanam Bewafa, Sajan Bina Suhagan, Souten, and many others. 

After the news of his death spread, several bollywood celebrities paird their tributes to Saawan. Some celebrities also shared some beautiful memories with him on their instagram handles expressing their gratitude for him.

Rakesh Roshan penned a heartfelt note while sharing Tak's photo. The note read, "Saawan ji going to miss you, may your soul rest in peace". Speaking to ETimes, Rakesh Roshan revealed, "I had the opportunity to meet Saawan ji on August 25 at Kokilaben hospital at 2pm. We shook hands, though he was on a respiratory system and at 4.30 I got the sad news." Remembering Sawan Kumar's contribution to his own films Rakesh Roshan said, "He was a great friend, a very talented lyricist and filmmaker. He wrote the songs for Kaho Naa Pyar Hai and he made Mother 98 with me. I will miss his sweetness and his talent. May he rest in peace."

Padmini Kolhapure shared a throwback photo with Saawan Kumar Tak and wrote, "Zindagi Gham ka sagar bhi hai...Hans ke uspaar jaana padega...Sawan Kumar Tak aaj zindagi numa saagar ko paar karke uspaar chaley gaye...Om Shanti".

On the other hand, Salman Khan shares a heartfelt note for the veteran filmmaker, who was a close friend of his by posting an unseen picture of them together. He wrote " May u rest in peace my dear Sawaan ji. Have always loved and respected you." He directed two films with Salman Khan, the 2006 romantic film, Saawan... The Love Season with Saloni Aswani, Kapil Jhaveri, Ranjeet, Prem Chopra.

Saawan Kumar Tak body has reached his the residence. Many bollywood celebrities are attending his funeral. Prem Chopra, Sunil Pal, David Dhawan, Manmohan Shetty, Ashok Pandit and Shyam Kaushal (Vicky Kaushal Dad) were spotted at the funeral.
