Navya Naveli Nanda Reveals How An Unconscious Gender Divide Is Played Out Even Inside Her Home

Since ancient times, women have been expected to take care of the families and household while men are expected to go out and earn for the family. While things are slowly changing in society but there is still a long way to as these gender roles are carved in our minds.

It is really high time that we should change our thinking and Navya Naveli Nanda thinks the same as she recently spoke about it.

In a video on SheThePeople’s Instagram page, Nanya said that “I have seen this happen at my home where if guests are over, my mother would always tell me to fetch something or the other. I have to play the host as opposed to my brother who could also be doing the same thing.” 

“So, I think especially in homes where you live in big families or joint families, the responsibility of how to run the house, or how to play the host, take care of guests, is somehow always put on the daughter or the girl of the house. I have never seen that importance (responsibility) being put on the son of the house or the younger boy. That itself is ingraining the women into believing that it is our responsibility to look after the house,” she added.

Gender Roles In Our Society

Daughters are always expected to take care of the family and do every household chore. From cleaning to making the bed to serving food to fetching water to doing every little task in the house. Women think of this as their responsibility because this has been taught to them since a very young age.

Household chores and taking care of the family is not only the responsibility of the females of the house but everyone shouldtake care of each other and the house.

Navya Naveli talks about how gender roles are a part of her family as well and if it happens in influential families, then we cannot expect others to change. It is high time that we should change our thinking. Navya Naveli has taken the right step by talking about patriarchy. Accepting the problem is the first step towards change and this video will surely influence a lot of people, thus, bringing a change in society.
