Majnu Ka Tila Getting Closed: Over the years, Delhi’s very own Majnu Ka Tila has become everyone’s favourite go-to spot. From delicious laphing to street shopping to doing karaoke with your friends, this place had it all. It has become a popular hub for restaurants, cafes, bakeries and eateries. A ruling on Wednesday announced that some establishments will now be shut down by the Delhi High Court authorities. The directed authorities are going to take action against restaurants and other structures without sanctioned building plans and safety measures in place. Is Majnu Ka Tila Getting Closed?

Filled with cafes serving Tibetan, Asian, and Insta-worthy cuisines, Majnu Ka Tila has formed a special soft corner in the heart of many Delhites, especially university students. A recent Delhi High Court ruling, passed on Wednesday, has directed authorities to take action against several cafes, bars, and restaurants in Majnu Ka Tila. The reason behind government authorities shutting down several establishments is that they are allegedly operating without sanctioned building plans and fire safety measures. HC has given heads up to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Special Task Force (STF) dealing with the removal of unauthorised constructions to treat a PIL before the court as a complaint. They will now be taking action against outlets or commercial establishments operating without safety measures and building plans.

With regard to this recent ruling, we can conclude that not the entirety of Majnu Ka Tila will be shut down, but only those eateries and cafes operating without proper documents. These documents would include licenses to operate, proper building plans with fire and safety measures in place.

Why Is Majnu Ka Tila Getting Closed?

The hearing that took place in the Delhi High Court was a result of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed. Under this Public Interest Litigation, the safety hazards of numerous unauthorised restaurants operating in multi-storey buildings along the Yamuna riverbank. The two-judge bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela has allowed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Special Task Force (STF) to deal with the removal of such unauthorised buildings in Majnu Ka Tila
