The makers of the eagerly-awaited film ‘Akhanda 2’ announced December 4, 2025 that the movie’s premiere shows would be cancelled and just hours later, revealed that the release would be postponed indefinitely. The news came as a deep disappointment to fans.
Originally slated for a grand release on December 5, 2025, ‘Akhanda 2’s delay has left many puzzled and upset. Nandamuri Balakrishna shared an Instagram story for the fans with a messages, “With deep regret, we announce that #Akhanda2 will not release as scheduled because of unforeseen circumstances. We know how much this film means to all of you, and we truly share your disappointment. This decision was not an easy one. Please know that we are doing everything in our power to bring you good news at the earliest. Thank you for always standing by us.”
The core reason behind the postponement appears to be a legal dispute. The Madras High Court issued a halting the release of Akhanda 2 after a petition filed by Eros International Media Limited.
Eros had claimed that the production outfit behind the film, 14 Reels Plus / its predecessor 14 Reels Entertainment, had failed to pay a previous arbitral award of roughly Rs 28 crore (plus interest) that Eros was awarded back in July 2019. The release of ‘Akhanda 2’ has been put on hold across theatrical, digital, and TV platforms. To proceed, the makers must first clear dues of nearly Rs 28 crore (plus 14% interest) owed to Eros under a previous arbitration ruling.
Eros declared before the bench: “Eros argued that this was an indirect attempt to flout the arbitral award and avoid compliance with legally determined financial obligations.”
The production house, 14 Reels Plus shared a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) which reads, “With a heavy heart, we regret to inform you that #Akhanda2 will not be releasing as scheduled due to unavoidable circumstances. This is a painful moment for us, and we truly understand the disappointment it brings to every fan and movie lover awaiting the film. We are working tirelessly to resolve the matter at the earliest. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. Your support means the world to us. We promise to share a positive update very soon.”

Before the court order came to light for ‘Akhanda 2’, the production house had already cancelled premiere shows across India. In a post, they cited ‘Technical Issues’ as the reason. At the time, many believed it might be a last-minute glitch. However, with the court stay revealed soon after, it’s now clear that the cancellation had deeper legal roots.

‘Akhanda 2’ is the sequel to blockbuster ‘Akhanda’ which was released in 2021. The film reunites the hit duo, the star Nandamuri Balakrishna and director Boyapati Sreenu, which had earlier struck gold with intense mass-action storytelling. According to IMDb, “When the nefarious Varadarajulu plans to attack Murali Krishna, an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, Akhanda leaves no stone unturned to defeat the evil”, is the plot of ‘Akhanda’.
With high expectations, fans had hoped for grand action sequences, powerful dialogues and a bigger scale than the original. The film had also completed censor board clearance and seemed ready for release. Makers are yet to announce the new release date of ‘Akhanda 2’.
At the moment, no new release date has been announced from the makers. For now, fans can only hope that all the issues end soon and that the film hits the screens soon.
